Katie & Ben | A Farm Wedding | New Hampshire Wedding Photography

Many of you know Enna and I moved out of the city and into the quiet of New Hampshire just over a year ago and with the move came the talk of photographing weddings in our new home town. Little did we expect that it would happen so fast and so close to home! Fort Rock Farm is on the other side of the forrest behind our house where I often take our dog Jackson for walks.  As soon as NH wedding planner Leslie Barbini of The Wedding Belle heard that we were in her area she scheduled a meeting for us with this amazing couple and now we are excited to be sharing their images! Katie and Ben live in NYC, and Katie has deep family roots in NH. Her family farm has been in the family for generations and was not only a perfect backdrop for their day, but also a potent symbol of time, tradition, and love. Katie got ready at her parents' house in Rye with the help of of our good friend Joanne of Joya Beauty before heading to the farm for first look photos with Ben. The ceremony was held in their local church and afterward everyone gathered in the barn for blessings, a brief history of the farm, toasts, and an amazing meal. After the plates were cleared and as folks mingled, the center tables were removed, opening the barn up for a dance floor. Our custom designed photobooth, aka The Luxebooth, was set in the tent next to the barn for guests to enjoy and as the sun set Leslie and her team lined the driveway with paper lanterns. It was a perfect fall day for a wedding and we are excited to be sharing these photos with you!

Congratulations Katie and Ben!!!  ~Matt and Enna

Our photobooth, custom designed by us, was on site!

Jennifer & Chris | A Gibbet Hill Wedding

Meet Jennifer and Chris! They forged a relationship and fell in love after being introduced by roommates in Cambridge and spending nights challenging each other to XBox games only to realize after a while that it wasn't the games they liked, it was each other's company. As it happens, they grew up in neighboring towns and both attended the New England Conservatory prep school every weekend while in high school (Chris for trumpet and Jen for piano), and probably bumped into each other at some point there, of course never knowing that they'd eventually be married. On a cold and rainy December evening, an "unfortunate" set of circumstances (independently arranged, as it turned out, by both of them) "forced" them to have to share an umbrella for a walk down to the local watering hole, straying behind the rest of the friends they were with. This was the moment when Chris asked Jen out for their first date. Since that moment they have been enjoying cooking together, going to concerts, and hiking. To the best of my knowledge the Xbox stayed behind with the roommates. It is their love of cooking that led them to choose The Barn at Gibbet Hill for their wedding venue. The venue uses fresh and local produce and has a beautiful and elegant barn perfect for weddings. Although a small rain shower just before the start of the ceremony moved everything inside, it was a beautiful day and the rain cleared after the ceremony just in time for photos outside.

Congratulations Jen and Chris! ~Matt and Enna

I used to not like cupcakes at weddings, but Nicole and Dominick and a few other recent clients have convinced me that they are definitely a yummy AND beautiful alternative to the traditional wedding cake... the key is to mix up the flavors (after all you are ordering dozens of individual servings of cake, why not mix up the flavors?), and to not feel like you have to follow wedding cake "rules" with regards to presentation and decoration.

Love Story - Joya Beauty

Okay brides and blog-reading friends... it's time for me to share one of our treasured secrets... Joanne of Joya Beauty. Oops, did I really write that? If you're one of our own clients RUN to your telephone and book Joanne now, before all our other blog-readers snap up her remaining dates!

Joanne is probably the most talented makeup artist we have ever worked with. We LOVE it when our brides book her, because we know several things: 1) our clients will be utterly charmed and cared for by Joanne - and for busy brides this is priceless. 2) they will look fabulous... need I say more? Brides who look good feel good, and brides who feel good look better in their pictures! And finally, reason number 3) this is our little studio secret... when we work with Joya we do less photoshop retouching. All of these things free us to do what we love most - documenting the moment and portraying the inner and outer beauty of each client, their stories and relationships.

I have to admit, I am makeup challenged. Choosing, buying, and using makeup is intimidating for me. I have some tried and true techniques that work (light mascara, lip gloss, a smudge of eyeliner), but beyond that I am totally lost. I can never select the right color base for my skin, and even if the color turns out right it is usually the wrong consistency for my skin type and I end up never using it. So I need some serious hand-holding when it comes to choosing and wearing makeup.

Last week I visited Joya Beauty with Sallie (one of our FAVORITE clients ever... mother-of-the-bride extraordinaire), and we both got custom blended makeup and application lessons.

Joanne custom blends everything from scratch, testing on your cheek as she goes, and this is always wonderful because she is just so fun and peaceful to spend time with. I always feel rejuvenated and inspired after spending time with her, and I know this is her special gift.

Joanne's shop is super fun to visit. It's full of beautiful colors, powders, and components... it's sort of like a chemistry lab too, because she mixes everything by hand.

Thank you Joanne, for a lovely afternoon (and Sallie too). I'm LOVING my new makeup!
