Ilana's Bat Mitvah Portraits : Boston Bat Mitzvah Photography

Every year I get a handful of really great families that hire me for their kids bar/bat mitzvah. One of the best parts of being commisioned for these shoots is the portrait session I get to do beforehand. We spend some time in a fun location making cool portraits of the kids and then create a custom designed guest book with these images inside it for their friends and family to sign at the event. Ilana came to our Portsmouth studio recently with her mom and we enjoyed a nice walk about town in the fall weather making these images of her. Her party is just a few weeks away and I look forward to meeting the rest of the family! Cheers ~ Mattion

Bar Mitzvah: downtown Boston portraits of twins

I love being commissioned for creative bar/bat mitzvah portraits! I was recently asked by a family to do a photo session of their twin boys in downtown Boston. I instructed them to wear their best suit and bring their instruments and a basketball with them and together we hit Beacon Hill and Boston's financial district. I love mixing it up with nice clean portraits amongst edgy city scenes. I'll be documenting their bar mitzvah in a few weeks, till then check out the fun we had:) undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

Jacob : a boston bar mitzvah

Jacob recently celebrated his bar mitzvah at High Output and the theme was "iJacob". From the gift bags, to the cake it was an iJacob night. Jacob is a techi and loves all things Apple. For summer camp he went to a camp to learn video editing and could probably come into my studio and teach me a thing or two:) Documenting the event was special for me as I also photographed his sister Hannah's bat mitzvah a few years ago, so it's very cool when you get to see the family again. High Output is a sound stage used for such things as music videos and tv commercials. Max Ultimate Food catered the event and transformed the space into a night club atmosphere worthy of a big party. Curtains were hung, lights projected and a 20 foot bar anchored both the dance floor and reception area where the kids enjoyed our photobooth and other activities such as custom street signs. Mazel tov Jacob! It was great to see you all again!!  ~Matt

A portrait for Jacob

I don't  do many family portraits (Enna does) and I only accept a few bar/bat mitzvah commissions a year. So this post is a bit of a rarity for me:) Jacob's bar mitzvah will be this coming October and promises to be a fantastic party. I know this because I documented his sisters bat mitzvah a few years ago. His family is fun, energetic and really enjoy time together. The following images are from their pre-event photo session on a beautiful late summer day. It was great to see them again and I'm really looking forward to seeing their party plans come to life!

A Bar Mitzvah Like No Other!

Enna and I recently photographed Adam's bar mitzvah at the Franklin Park Zoo. This was pretty cool way to celebrate a bar mitzvah. The Thursday before the party I did some formal portraits at their temple, then the family hosted about 150 of their friends for food and drinks at the zoo's rain forest two days later. The gorillas seemed to enjoy watching everyone watching them and also had fun giving the occasional scare by beating on the plexiglass. The zoo gave the kids a behind the scenes tour, and towards the end of the night everyone played a serious game of Family Fued.

Here are some fun shots from the event...
