On September 27, 2014, Anne and Ryan were married with a ceremony and reception at Reading Farms Estate in Woodstock, VT. Reading Farms is relatively new on the wedding venue scene in Vermont, and it's a STUNNING location. With no nearby neighbors, the entire horizon of this former horse-farm estate was nothing but gorgeous Vermont green and orange foliage as far as the eye could see. At night, the stars were magnificent. There are two ponds on this property—one adjacent to the house and one adjacent to the lower lawn where the tent was set up. We were told that the pond at the house is actually great for swimming (we don't think anyone went swimming at this wedding, though). The property owner and his staff were incredibly gracious to the guests as well as to fellow vendors, which we loved.
Matt and I arrived at the farm the morning of the wedding, as everything was to take place onsite. Ryan and his groomsmen hung out in the party room, which is an addition on the barn—complete with hot tub. Anne and her bridesmaids got ready in the main house, which was peaceful and airy and had high windows from which they could look out at the progress of the tent and other setup.
Anne wore her mother's wedding dress with very slight modifications. It was already a family tradition; Anne's sister had worn it the previous year for her own wedding. This dress was absolutely lovely. Ryan had tears in his eyes every time he looked at his bride.
Their first look was beautiful—the whole property was so lovely we struggled to choose a location for this! We ended up opting for the privacy offered by a stand of old pine trees on the bank of the antique swimming pond. These images are some of our favorite from the day. Both Anne and Ryan were SO in the moment—which is our absolute favorite attitude for a couple to have on their wedding day. It helps us get "in the zone" with our work, and they offer so much emotion and joy—it's a pleasure to witness as well as to photograph.
As the day progressed, the sunlight filtered through the ancient corridor of maple trees where the ceremony was held—it was peaceful and buttery golden beautiful. I just loved how sweetly Ryan gazed at Anne all day long; he couldn't stop looking at her. A few other favorite images were Matt's portrait of Anne and Ryan on the hillside in the evening light and the portraits I captured of them interacting with their guests as they entered cocktail hour.
This was our first time working with event coordinator Carrie MacMillan from Storied Events, and were so glad to have her around! The setup was perfect; they even included a bourbon tasting table with a bonfire in the field below the tent. The floral arrangements created by Blomma Flicka included arranged peaches and grapes with floral trimming (some of it locally foraged greenery)—very personal and unique! We also loved the felted acorn placecards: perfect for an autumn wedding! And the caterer—Let's Pretend —um, army guys on the bacon appetizer! We loved it so much that we featured that unique hors d'oeuvre in our sneak peak in October. Awesome!
Thank you so much, Anne & Ryan, for inviting us to witness and document your day. It was such an honor to be part of your "team" for the day.
