Linsay and ryan | a new hampshire maternity session

A big reason we love what we do is the connection and relationship we have with our couples. A wedding is such an intimate event and being the two people in charge of documenting it for the creation of a family heirloom allows us special access to the couples lives, and we love this. It is a key element to the success of our images, knowing who we are photographing. If you've looked at our web site and met with us in person you know Linsay and Ryan. Linsay's big smile has been on our home page for some time now as she leans against the blue wall with Ryan leaning in for a kiss. That moment was special for all who were there, and their wedding album is a huge hit here in the studio. It is a custom designed Couture Album filled with laughter and beautiful intimate moments. They now have a beautiful home in NH, Ryan is the assistant principle of a high school, and in just a few weeks they will be welcoming their first child.

So how excited was I when a about a month ago I got word that they are expecting their first child? VERY EXCITED!! The timing could not had been better as I had this sudden urge to go out and make a beautiful maternity portrait (I was inspired by Enna's recent work and my friend Melissa). Normally this is Enna's department as I like specializing in weddings, but once I started emailing with Linsay I had to go out for this session.

We met at a river not far from their new home in New Hampshire. My approach was to think about a single image, just as I do for my large format fine art portraits (although this one is digital). This river has an amazing swim hole and this little rocky falls is on the edge. We started working with the old stone wall in the woods, but soon had our swim suits on and were in the water. The water temp was bareable, and after some fudging around they managed to find a comfy place to sit and hold still for my 4 second exposure. For you photo tech geeks my iso was 200 and apeture 16. It took a bit to stabilize the tripod and a few different positions to find the right one, but I love this image. They are such a sweet couple and knowing their adventurous personalities I think the image suits them. I can't wait to print this image!

Congratulations Linsay and Ryan! I can't wait to meet the little one!  ~ Matt
